Happy Thursday, friends! I know Thursday is for Salt, and this week I’m sharing the newest layer to Salt with Soul: Good Mood, Good Food- a Weekly Meal Plan with recipes and a grocery list exclusively available to paid subscribers. But, first… some back story.
I realized this week that while you are on this e-mail list, some of you might not what “Substack” is, why we have paid subscribers, or what we’re really doing here in the first place.
Substack is a writer platform that gives ownership of words to the writers and creates streams for us to grow and be paid for our work. Filled with journalists, novelists, famous advice columnists, chefs, explorers, and more, I often feel the imposter syndrome just being in this space. But, that's also the beauty of it: there is no reason to feel insecure because it’s an engine designed for all of us to grow through the community. Substack is a place that prioritizes community over competition.
Some of the top earners here make over $5,000,000 annually, and it’s all driven by subscriptions, merchandise, and more. I joined because, after writing online for so many years, I know how finicky “ownership of words” is, and if I was going to write again, I wanted to know that I had ownership. I can name quite a few online places that monetized my words while I got zilch, and I know my worth better now.
To be honest, I had no idea of the income potential, and I’ve only recently begun to internalize the idea that just by being in this space, I am a writer and can earn money as a writer.
But, how do you add value to a place on the internet when you’re already producing so much for free? I asked myself that for months and tossed around a number of ideas in my “idea book”. And, then one day while I was doing my weekly grocery prep, I realized exactly what I can offer you to make that automatic $5 a month more digestible: A Weekly Meal Guide, complete with recipes and a grocery list.
My ethos is to make cooking fun again. To make it easier to navigate, to give you the recipe without having to read 14 pages of “The first time I made mac and cheese was Kraft mac and cheese with my Nona and it made me realize that I love cheese!”, or whatever cheugy bullshit is out there.
Simplified, delicious, ::mostly:: healthy meals weekly. Good Mood, Good Food is an extension of that ethos.
So, this week, friends- I want you to have Good Mood, Good Food Volume One for free. I will never pressure you to spend your money, but I want you to see that $5 a month can go so far in simplifying your weekly shopping.
If you like it and want to upgrade, I’d be so honored. I created a 10% discount for anyone that upgrades to “Paid” for the next 12 months to celebrate.
As always, I’m so grateful you’re here. I have loved watching this space grow and who knows, maybe one day I’ll be a top earner here at Substack. Dream big, be consistent, and do what you love, right?
I’ll see you Monday for a little bit of Soul. Enjoy your weekend, friends.
