Welcome to Salt with Soul: your Internet’s kitchen.

bringing back bathroom selfies.

Growing up, all the best conversations happened in the kitchen over a good meal and a better cocktail. Life’s problems could be solved over a Carbonara and a few glasses of wine.

I created Salt with Soul to be your internet kitchen. In my experience, the kitchen is where the soul lives—where you grab a glass of wine, sit at the table, and talk openly about life.

“Salt with Soul” are two pieces of my puzzle: “Salt” is where we cook. Cooking envelops everything that matters to me in life: being present, problem-solving, bringing everyone together, and being creative. “Soul” is where we metabolize life. I have always said that I was meant to go through life's challenges—grief, divorce, estrangement, body consciousnessthe list goes on—to share them. We are all connected through threads of human experience, and my goal is to create a space where you feel safe to let go of what holds you back.

As a newsletter, Salt with Soul allows me to relate directly with a community. Here, we can be authentically ourselves and not worry about “aesthetics,” “hashtags,” or “trending audio.” We can put the armor down and breathe here. This is a place to discuss our dreams, find inspiration, and be creative. This is a place where we destigmatize cooking as a chore and debunk the myth that “healing,” “self-love,” and “boundaries” are linear and finite. This is a space where we celebrate the authentic, messy little moments in between that make life so beautiful.

This isn’t a food blog where you’ll need that one weirdly expensive ingredient or nineteen hours to prepare a meal. This a place where we learn to use what we have, enjoy what’s in front of us, and tap into our creativity along the way.

Together, we’ll tackle hard things and make it seem effortless.

Free Subscribers have access to:

  • Weekly “Soul” Essays: These essays cover various topics, including healing, journaling, and life experiences. Life is organic, and so are the essays. They are sent out on Tuesdays.

  • Weekly “Salt” Recipes: These recipes won’t overwhelm you. They have simple ingredients and easy-to-follow steps designed to encourage you to add your spin. I know it’s easier to “order in”, and my goal is to create dishes that will inspire you to want to cook. They are sent out on Thursdays.

  • Occasional curated lists of products, books, gift ideas, or unexpected finds.

Paid Subscribers receive all free content plus:

  • Videos from my kitchen for each recipe: follow along as I make each dish, even the mishaps :)

  • Access to our Bi-Monthly Cooking Challenge titled ‘5 or Less”: Every other week, I’ll give you five ingredients or less to make a meal with! And, of course, I’ll create my own and share it. Ingredients will include protein, produce, and condiments- spices don’t count in the 5- so you can be creative! This is a great way to tap into your creativity and think of food as more than something to “get through.” Cooking is enjoyable!

  • Monthly Meal Prep is exclusive for paid subscribers. At the top of each month, paid subscribers will receive 25 days' worth of recipes. I promise all the recipes will be simple, delicious, and somewhat healthy. You won’t need some expensive ingredient that you can only use once: anything we use can be used in various ways.

Either way, welcome! I’m so grateful you’re here.

More about Leanne Gelish (-Tolman)

My name is Leanne Gelish. You may know me from my Photography, Newsday, Thought Catalog, or Instagram.

Oh, and I once had an “Almost Famous” summer where I loosely toured with the Dave Matthews Band:

I am a writer, photographer, and amateur cook who aims to empower you to see the best in yourself. A born storyteller, I love finding the threads that keep us all intertwined. I have a self-published poetry book, “Season’s: A Collection of Poetry and Journal to Healing.” I still have my photography business where my “Love Yourself” Sessions and print shop exist.

When I’m not writing, cooking, or working, I’m usually with my family: my husband, dogs, and extended family. We live in Huntington, New York, and love exploring the shores of our little island.
